Natura 2000: |
||||
AndaluciaAndalucia is probably one of the best known regions of Spain as this dry, mountainous region embraces the Costa del Sol. But just a stone’s throw away from the crowded coastline is a fabulous landscape which is still relatively undiscovered. Within 40 minutes of the sandy beach, you can be skiing at the famous resort of Sierra Nevada with its 3,400m peaks or exploring the other beautiful Sierras that form the backbone of this region. In fact over half of Andalucia is mountainous with 30% being at an altitude of more than 600m. Andalucia is one of the warmest regions in Europe and has a temperate, Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild winters. More than a fifth of the region is protected under Natura 2000 thanks to its rich and diverse wildlife. Rare species like the Iberian lynx are still present here, and although you are extremely unlikely to ever come across one in the wild, you would be more than compensated by the huge variety of other wildlife there is to see here and the spectacular landscapes which reminds one of how the Mediterranean once looked like.
